The idea for this site began in a magazine journalism class where students published CSUN Scene, a blog and magazine examining university life.  One student (this blog’s author) decided to focus on her city’s hidden gems: abandoned buildings, mysterious places, and interesting inhabitants.  At the encouragement of her professor and peers, she decided to start her own blog and continue sharing her discoveries.

The author earned her bachelor’s degree in journalism with an anthropology collateral at California State University, Northridge.  A born-and-raised Angeleno, she currently lives in West Adams with her husband, baby boy, dog, and cat. She’s currently associate editor at Racked LA.

She has also contributed to North Hollywood-Toluca Lake PatchLAist.com, LifeinLA.com (formerly Socal.com), and Examiner.com.

Photos are taken with a Sony Alpha A100K DSLR, Pentax Q, or Android smartphone; all photos are copyrighted by the author unless otherwise noted.

Questions, comments and writing inquiries can be sent to editor @ thenativelatourist.com (delete spaces).
