Echo Mountain at the Sam Merrill Trail in Altadena, which I probably found via Modern Hiker.

Whenever I’m in need of a new hiking trail, I instinctually go to Modern Hiker. Over the past nine years, founder Casey Schreiner and his team have provided Angelenos and outdoorsy visitors with tons of top-notch guides, called out “street artists” for defacing Mother Nature, shared their favorite hiking gear, and…the list goes on. If you, too, are a local explorer who has relied on the online hiking guide for endless LA adventures, know that today is the last call to pitch in for the Modern Hiker’s major upgrade.

I regret that I haven’t had a chance to do my part in sharing the news until now, but better late than never! Right this minute, the website is running an Indiegogo campaign to fund its site redesign, which will include a powerful new trail finder search feature, even more trail guides in California and beyond, the ability to save and track your own hikes, better gear reviews, and more.

Contribution options range from $5 to $2,000, and perks include Jep Pack backpacks, Modern Hiker tees, guided camping trips for 2, and even a 3-day hiking adventure in Death Valley or Zion National Park (transportation included!). You’ve got until midnight tonight to pitch in (the campaign ends September 15th); donate over at Indiegogo here and see more about the upgrade in the video below.
