Happenings this weekend: Coffee, K-Town, Mardi Gras & food trucks

Wake up and smell the coffee: Via yours truly on LAist: The Southwest Barista Competition kicks off tomorrow at Siren Studios in Hollywood.  Eat tasty food from food trucks (@ManilaMachine, @ButtermilkTruck, CoolHaus, Crepe’n Around and @NaanStop are just a few that will be serving), try your hand at making your own crafty caffeinated concoctions at their coffee bar, enjoy live bands and follow @baristaguild, @theCoffeeBean and #SWBaristaChamp for details on after parties and more.

Koreatown Plaza spring sale: Via Twitter: Visit the K-Town Plaza Friday through Sunday for spring deals.

Mardi Gras at the Farmer’s Market: Celebrate Fat Tuesday all weekend at the L.A. Farmer’s Market.  Watch Grammy-nominated artist Lisa Hely & the Zydekats perform, enter your pooch in their Mutt Gras Costume Contest, sing your heart out at E.B.’s Rajun Cajun Karaoke or sit back, eat and watch the various parades being held.

Truck It Fest: Take the Metro to Union Station (parking’s no fun down there!) this Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and grab grub from 40 different food trucks (@CrepesBonaparte, @Komodo).  General admission is $5, but get a VIP ticket for $45 and ditch the lines; you’ll get table service, a $10 valet voucher and early entrance. Make your way up to the rock-climbing wall to burn your calories, or check out the vendors for some after-lunch retail therapy.  Missed your chance to pig out? The festival will return every first Sunday of the month.
