Malibu Creek State Park with Hollywood History Tours

Created with flickr slideshow.

A few months ago, Eric Gardner of Hollywood History Tours was kind enough to take us on a great hike in Malibu Creek State Park (read an interview with him here), where we were taken on a great tour of historical film sites.  The procrastination bug bit me hard and I’m embarrassed that it’s taken me this long to finally post…But better late than never, right?

We started off at the campgrounds entrance of Malibu Creek State Park off Las Virgenes Road (Here’s a money-saving tip – Park off Mulholland Drive instead of at the park’s lot and save on parking fees) and hiked up to the “M*A*S*H” TV show filming site; along the way we checked out spots where movies like “Planet of the Apes”, “Pleasantville”, “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid” and others were filmed.

During the four-hour excursion, Gardner also led us to the Cage Trail (named after the original Planet of the Apes cage movie prop — see if you can spot it off the trail!) and the Rock Pool.

To see Gardner’s photos of the hike, you can his Hollywood History Tours Flickr site here.  Though plans are still in the works to make HHT open to the public, be sure to check the Flickr site to get a taste of what it will offer.
